According to some the search for an exact focus and depth of field (DOF) is not all that good.
To me it is important to know where to focus, when and why. It is also important to set the aperture correctly simply because when your capture is made, you cannot change it other than by using destructive methods. Basically if you want something out of focus, I take it in focus first then blur it in post processing (PP) that way you are not caught off guard if you need the blurred capture area in focus later on.
You need not to be too obsessive about it but deadly serious? Absolutely.
